Recent studies of internal and surface nucleation in silicate glasses
This article reviews recent ndings on internal and surface nucleation in silicate glasses. The internal homogeneous nucleation rates sharply decrease and the induction times increase with the Tg=TL ratio (Tg is the glass-transition temperature and TL is the liquidus temperature). Only systems that have Tg=TL < 0:58 display measurable internal nucleation rates on a laboratory time-scale. Numer...

متن کاملInfrared study of the effect of P2O5 in the structure of lead silicate glasses
The infrared spectra of xPbO (1−x−z)SiO2zP2O5 glasses with a PbO:SiO2 molar ratio of 3:2 and z=0,1,2,5,30,40 and 50 mol% have been examined in the region 4000-400 cm, together with XRD. The structure of PbO-SiO2 binary glass is significantly different from that of P2O5 substituted glasses. The low amount of P2O5 containing PbO-SiO2 glasses results in infrared spectra of the same pattern as 3:2 ...

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel (Panel) reviewed the safety of calcium sodium borosilicate, calcium aluminum borosilicate, calcium titanium borosilicate, silver borosilicate, and zinc borosilicate as used in cosmetics. These borosilicate glasses function mostly as bulking agents. Available animal and human data were considered along with data from a previous safety assessment of mag...
